The Carthage R-9 Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Dustin Perkins as the new Athletics and Activities Director at Carthage High School.
Mr. Perkins brings more than 22 years of experience in education and is a proud graduate of Carthage High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Missouri Southern State University in 2003, a Master of Science in Secondary Administration from William Woods University in 2013, and completed his Specialist in Educational Administration from Lindenwood University in 2024.
Mr. Perkins has a strong and well-rounded background in both academics and athletics. He has taught Social Studies courses, including U.S. History, World History, U.S. Government, and Civics. In 2014, he became an Assistant Principal at Carthage High School, where he has served for the past 12 years. During his tenure, he has also served as Summer School Director and PLC Coordinator for CHS.
In addition to his administrative experience, Mr. Perkins brings 12 years of coaching experience, including football, wrestling, track, and baseball at schools across southwest Missouri. His coaching background also includes experience at the college level and three years as a head high school football coach.
“Dustin Perkins brings a unique blend of instructional leadership, administrative experience, and a deep understanding of athletics and activities,” said Carthage Superintendent, Dr. Luke Boyer. “As a Carthage graduate himself, he understands the pride, tradition, and expectations of our community. He is exceptionally well-prepared to lead our athletics and activities programs.”
“Mr. Perkins represents the best of Carthage — he’s a graduate, a former coach, and a leader within our school and community who deeply cares about and understands our people and traditions,” said Dr. Angela Holman, Principal of Carthage High School. “He’s passionate about building on the strong foundation already in place and continuing to create new opportunities for our students and programs.”
Mr. Perkins shared his excitement for the role, stating, “What a great time to be a Carthage Tiger! Coming off the heels of four COC West championships this fall, an acclaimed Fine Arts Department, top-notch facilities including a new PAC, and an expansive list of clubs, it is clear that Carthage High School is a premier school in the state of Missouri. I am humbled and honored to serve Carthage R-9 and the community as the next Activities Director. Being a former student, athlete, teacher, coach, and administrator makes Carthage a special place to me. I bleed Carthage Blue, and I look forward to serving the students, coaches, and sponsors of CHS.”
The Carthage R-9 School District extends its sincere appreciation to Mr. Mark Holderbaum for his leadership and wishes him the very best in his well-earned retirement.
Please join us in congratulating Mr. Dustin Perkins on his appointment as Carthage High School Athletics and Activities Director.
