Do the Right Thing

Each month our R-9 Board of Education presents "Do the Right Thing" awards.  Congratulations to all the recipients of this award.

August 2017 Do the Right Thing Award

Daisy Pelico Gonzalez, Second Grade, Fairview Elementary School

Nominated by Sammy Esposito and Holley Goodnight:

“On Friday afternoon after summer school, Daisy Pelico Gonzalez brought a little kindergarten girl to Tech North who was lost and didn’t know how to get home after getting off at the bus stop.  Daisy first tried to help the girl find her house, but after not having any luck, she decided to go back to a school where she could find a responsible adult to help.  She was very kind and helpful to this little girl who was new to this “school thing” and just learning the ropes.”

April 2017 Do the Right Thing Award

Bright Futures Carthage and Soroptimist partnered together to put on an empowerment event for junior high girls called “Dream It Be It” on February 23rd.  The event included snack, introduction and game time, along with three breakout sessions.  The sessions covered career choices, discovering your personality, and positive stress relief with yoga!  Each young lady received a goodie bag to take home that included a Dream It Be It bracelet as a reminder of their experience!

Fourteen professional women, along with four community volunteers, six junior high staff members, and five senior high girls, gave their time to come and provide a fun, informative, and inspiring experience for 36 young women at Carthage Junior High!  Through participation as registrars, greeters, group leaders, game players, and servers, these role models created a positive atmosphere of caring and encouragement!  During one breakout session, four of the women also shared how they came to be in their current career and discussed career interests the students might have.

The Soroptimist mission is to improve the lives of women and children in the community.  Bright Futures Carthage is thankful for their generosity and partnership in making a difference in the lives of Carthage R-9 students!
