Who Will Be Notified If There Is a Case in My School?

  • Parents will be contacted by a representative of the Carthage R-9 School District and/or the Jasper County Health Department if their child is believed to have been in close contact with an individual with a positive COVID-19 test. When contacted by the Jasper County Health Department, the health department will provide specific guidance regarding testing and quarantine.

Important: The Jasper County Health Department has partnered with ACCESS Family Care to assist in contacting families when their child has been identified as having been in close contact with an individual with a positive COVID-19 test. As a result, families may receive a call from ACCESS Family Care on behalf of the Jasper County Health Department.

Only the Jasper County Health Department can issue quarantine orders and release individuals from quarantine. The District only provides contact tracing information.

What's the Difference Between Quarantine and Isolation?

  • Important definitions provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:

    • Isolation separates sick people with a contagious disease from people who are not sick.
    • Quarantine separates and restricts the movement of people who were exposed to a contagious disease to see if they become sick.
    • Close contact is defined as someone who was within six feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period starting from two days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, two days prior to test specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated.
